Introduction to Computer Science

Do you like to work and play on the computer? Well, in the fifth grade you will discover a new discipline
that is called “Computer Science and ICT”. It will help you better understand what is going on inside your
computer and how you can process information more efficiently using it. You will discover computer
components, computer programs, the internet and internet search engines.

What is the computer?

The computer is a very complex and varied
device. Although there are supercomputers with
very high processing power or minicomputers
used in industrial automation, the best known
are personal computers (PCs). And they are very
different from tower PC, to laptop, netbook or
tablet. All of them help us to process, store and
transmit information. These operations are done
with the help of electronic components (the
hardware part) and under the Coordination of
programs (the software part).

What are it’s components?

Hardware components are the parts that
can be touched. The main elements are the
central unit with: housing, motherboard, power
supply, extension cards, storage devices, etc. and
peripheral devices, i.e.: monitor, keyboard, mouse,
microphone, scanner, printer, etc.
