4. Verb

As you know since your third grade, the verb is the part of speech that expresses action, status or belonging.
It’s a flexible part of speech because it changes its shape in order to fit the statement in which it’s used.
By now you have learned that the verb changes its form depending on the person and the number.

The verb also changes its form depending on the time. You can set the time of the verb according to the
time of speech. Take as an example the verb a vorbi (to speak).

acțiunea s-a petrecut înainte de momentul vorbirii.
Timpul trecut the action has happened before the moment of speech
Past time a vorbit, vorbi, vorbea, vorbise
he spoke, was speaking, has spoken, had spoken
acțiunea se petrece în momentul vorbirii.
Timpul prezent the action takes place at the moment of speaking
Present time vorbește
he speaks
acțiunea se va petrece după momentul vorbirii.
Timpul viitor the action will happen after the moment of speaking, in a future
Future time va vorbi
he will speak
