In the past tense the verb has several forms. Take as an example the verb a vorbi (to speak).
shows a past and completed action.
Perfect compus
Tata a vorbit foarte clar. Dad spoke very clear

Perfect simplu
Moș Ion Roată le vorbi celor adunați. Mr. Ion Roată talked to peaople

Imperfect Ana vorbea la telefon când a ajuns mama acasă. Ana was talking on the
phone when mom arrived.
indicates a past and completed action before another past action.
Mai-mult-ca-perfect Când tu ai ajuns acasă, mama ta vorbise deja cu profesorul. When you
you arrived at home, your mother had already spoken with the teacher.

3. Write sentences with all the past forms of the verb a citi (to read), third person, singular number.
Person, number and time are grammatical categories depending on which verb changes its form. There
is another grammatical category that you do not know yet, but you will discover it in middle school classes.
It is about verb mode.
Verb mode is a grammatical category specific to the verb and shows how the speaker considers the
action. There are many ways of the verb, but in the fifth grade you will study only two:
